Punjab: Amar Preet Singh Deolm, who resigned as Punjab's advocate general (AG) last week, slammed state Congress chief Navjot Singh Sidhu, accusing him of "obstructing the government's functioning." Sidhu resigned from his post after criticising the Charanjit Singh Channi government's appointment of Deol. Despite retracting his resignation, Sidhu stated that he will resume his duties as the state unit chief the day a new advocate general is appointed.

"There is a concerted attempt by vested interests to malign the functioning of the Congress Party in view of upcoming elections in Punjab for their selfish political gain by politicising the constitutional office of the Advocate General of Punjab," Deol said in a statement today.

"Navjot Singh Sidhu's repeated statements aim to derail the State government's sincere efforts to ensure justice in the drug and sacrilege cases. Sidhu is spreading false information in order to gain political advantage over his opponents "He went on to say in the statement that On September 27, he was appointed, but on November 1, he resigned.

Deol, 61, rose to prominence earlier this year after securing the release of former DGP Sumedh Singh Saini, who was arrested by the vigilance bureau in a 2020 criminal case. In the 2015 sacrilege cases before the Punjab and Haryana high court, Deol represented Saini and other accused.
