Punjab: Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi announced a special session of the Legislative Assembly on November 8 to "repeal" three farm laws and a notification enhancing the jurisdiction of the Border Security Force (BSF) in the state after chairing a cabinet meeting on Wednesday.

Channi told the media that if the Centre does not repeal the three farm laws by November 8, the Punjab cabinet will pass a resolution to "repeal" them in the state during the November 8 special session of the Legislative Assembly. The Punjab Chief Minister also demanded that the notification be withdrawn, citing the rising cost of living.

Farmers have been agitating at different sites since November 26 last year against the three enacted farm laws namely Farmers' Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion & Facilitation) Act, 2020; the Farmers Empowerment & Protection) Agreement on Price Assurance & farm Services Act 2020 and the Essential Commodities  Act, 2020. Farmer leaders and the Centre have held several rounds of discussion but the stalemate still exists. Notably, Punjab is slated to go to the polls early next year.
