New Delhi: Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Punjab Kings, the world's most popular cricket league, can now have a new head coach. With the current head coach Anil Kumble's contract coming to an end in September this year, the news is coming that this franchise team does not want to renew his contract. Recently, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) have appointed Chandrakant Pandit as the head coach in place of Brendon McCullum.
McCullum has taken over as the head coach of the England Test team and after that, he decided to step down as the head coach of KKR. The Punjab Kings (PBKS) team has not been able to win the trophy even once to date. Not only this, but since the 2014 IPL, this team has not even reached the playoffs. In IPL 2014, Punjab Kings (then Kings XI Punjab) reached the final and finished runners-up, which is their best performance in IPL history.
According to the information, Punjab Kings are not in the mood to renew Kumble's contract. His three-year contract expires next month. According to sources, an Indian coach has also been approached for the role, but his name has not been revealed yet. There are also talks that veterans like Eoin Morgan and Trevor Bayliss have been approached for the post. Morgan has previously captained KKR. During Kumble's tenure, Punjab played a total of 42 matches and won only 19 of them.
