Chandigarh: Partap Singh Bajwa, the leader of the opposition in Punjab, claimed on Monday that Yashwant Sinha will receive 99 percent of the votes cast in Punjab for the post of president.

In a statement to the media made in front of the Punjab Assembly, Bajwa stated that the Punjab Congress Legislative Party (CLP) meeting had been called to prevent any errors that would result in the annulment of votes.

"To prevent any errors that could result in the cancellation of ballots, all MLAs will get instructions on how to cast their votes for the election of the President. The majority of MPs will cast their ballots in Delhi, but those who wish to do so may also do it here. He also said that Yashwant Sinha would receive 99 percent of the votes cast in Punjab "Bajwa remarked.

As Ram Nath Kovind's term is set to expire on July 24, voting to choose the country's fifteenth president will take place on Monday.

The two candidates competing for election to the Office of the President are Droupadi Murmu of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) and Yashwant Sinha of the combined opposition.

4,809 electors will cast votes in today's presidential elections. The polls will be open in the State Legislative Assemblies and the Parliament from 10 am to 5 pm. Voter tallies will be completed on July 21.
