On Sunday night, the new bridge running parallel to the Puranpul Bridge was closed for traffic. The decision was taken in the wake of the authorities noticed that a small portion of the pillar was damaged. Traffic is now being diverted through the Musselam Jung Bridge.

The officer came into action immediately after the damaged notice. The HmWSM SB officials have opened the gates of Himayatsagar on two occasions in the past one week after heavily flowing into the Musi River. After being alerted that one of the pillars of the bridge was damaged on Sunday night, the traffic police immediately barricaded the bridge and diverted the traffic from Bahadurpura and Husseinium to the City College Road.

However, the bridge connects many areas of the old city with Caravan, Dhulpet, Jiaguda, Mehdipatnam, Asifnagar and Tappachabutra. With the bridge closed, motorists have to take a long side line to reach new areas of the city. The begum bazaar was a huge traffic jam on the road as the authorities closed the MJ market to the Afzalganj road keeping in view the width of the Begum Bazaar.
