Russian President Vladimir Putin has conveyed his apprehension regarding the alarming surge in civilian casualties in the ongoing hostilities between Hamas and the Israeli military in Israel and the Gaza Strip.

Furthermore, the Russian leader criticized Washington's Middle East policy during a telephone conversation with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, emphasizing the failure to consider the Palestinian population's requirements.

Putin, whose military operations in Ukraine last year faced accusations of causing significant civilian casualties, expressed his distress over the civilian fatalities in Israel and Gaza.

The Kremlin released a statement highlighting the leaders' discussion, with particular focus on the rapidly deteriorating situation in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict zone. The statement underscored their deep concern about the ongoing escalation of violence and the disturbing increase in civilian casualties.

Both leaders reiterated the urgent need for an immediate ceasefire and the resumption of diplomatic negotiations. Erdogan pointed out the regrettable targeting of civilian infrastructure and emphasized Turkey's disapproval of such actions.

Earlier the same day, Putin affirmed the necessity of establishing a Palestinian state and attributed the recent upsurge in violence to US policy in the region.

"I believe that many would concur that this situation vividly exemplifies the shortcomings of United States policy in the Middle East," Putin remarked at the outset of a meeting with Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed al-Sudani on Tuesday. Putin asserted that Washington had attempted to monopolize peace efforts between Israel and the Palestinians. He accused the US of failing to seek compromises acceptable to both parties and instead imposing its own ideas as a conflict resolution. Putin said, the US had disregarded the interests of the Palestinians, including their legitimate aspiration for an independent state.
