Turkish and Qatari corporations would discuss operating the airport in Afghanistan and engage with the Taliban, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said on Wednesday, according to the state-run TRT broadcaster.
"The Qatari side has settled on a private-sector name. Similarly, the Turkish side assigned a name to the issue. These organizations would negotiate with one another as well as with the Taliban "During his two-day visit to Qatar, Erdogan informed journalists. According to reports, Turkey and Qatar will run the airport in Kabul if sufficient conditions, including security, are fulfilled.
Erdogan said Turkey's bilateral relations with Qatar have reached a new level, noting that the two countries inked 15 agreements during his visit to Doha. Turkey and Qatar's approaches on regional and global issues overlap, he said, adding that Turkey-Qatar relations contribute significantly to the region's security and stability.
Erdogan also stated that Turkey is willing to repair relations with Israel if the latter takes concrete steps to resolve the Palestinian issue. "Israel must be more sensitive in its Palestinian policy in the region, particularly with regard to Jerusalem and the Al-Aqsa Mosque. We try our best and take our steps as soon as we see the sensitivities here "he stated.
