Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the PM Garib Kalyan Rozgar Abhiyan, costing fifty thousand crores, on Saturday, with the aim of providing work to the labourers returned to their villages due to lockdown. Under this campaign, 25 kinds of work options will be provided to migrant labourers for 125 days in 116 districts of 6 states. Indian Railways has also joined this campaign. Indian Railways has said on Wednesday that it will create eight lakh man-days by October 31 to provide employment opportunities to migrants and other needy in infrastructure projects worth Rs 1,800 crore within the next 125 days.

On Thursday, Railway Minister Piyush Goyal has also made a tweet in this regard. Goyal wrote in a tweet, "In order to fulfil its duty towards the nation, Railways will create eight lakh man-days in infrastructure projects worth Rs 1,800 crore under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Garib Kalyan Rojgar Abhiyan."

The Chairman of Railway Board, Vinod Kumar Yadav, had a meeting with General Managers, Divisional Railway Managers and Managing Directors through video conferencing on Wednesday. According to the statement issued by the Railways, the Railways will appoint nodal officers in all 116 districts and at the state level. Railways said that this 125-day campaign will work in mission mode. Railways said, 'There will be a focus on the implementation of works of various categories in all 116 districts. Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Jharkhand and Odisha have returned the largest number of migrant workers.
