Mumbai: Train services on the Konkan railway route have been affected due to heavy rains and overflowing rivers in Maharashtra. About 6,000 passengers are said to be stranded here. In fact, heavy rains here have affected rail and road traffic in many other parts of the state including Mumbai. Due to this, the authorities here have had to call the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) to help the administration in rescue operations.

Meanwhile, about 47 villages have reportedly lost contact and 965 families had to be evacuated due to the submergence of roads due to heavy rains in the Kolhapur district of the state. In this regard, officials said, "Two persons including a woman were washed away at different places in the district during the rains. Let us also tell all of you that nine trains have been diverted or canceled or shortened so far due to the impact of the Konkan Railway route.

More from our correspondent: "Due to heavy rains, major rivers of Konkan region are flowing above the danger mark in Ratnagiri and Raigad districts and government is gearing up to take the affected people to safer places.'' The Chief Minister's Office said Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray has reviewed the situation in these two coastal districts due to incessant rains. At the same time, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning of heavy rain for the next three days for coastal areas. At the same time, the Chief Minister has directed the officials to remain vigilant and monitor the water level of the rivers and take people to safer places.
