Jaipur: BJP leader Kirodi Lal Meena has stepped down from the Rajasthan Cabinet, fulfilling a promise made during the recent Lok Sabha elections. His aide confirmed the resignation on Thursday.

Meena, 72, had pledged to resign if the BJP lost any of the seven parliamentary seats under his oversight. Following the party's loss of several seats, including his hometown Dausa, Meena honored his commitment and submitted his resignation.

"Kirodi Meena resigned as minister. He gave the resignation to the chief minister 10 days back," the aide stated.

Meena, who served as the minister for agriculture, rural development, disaster management, and relief, had campaigned for seven seats in the Lok Sabha elections. His resignation came as a result of the BJP not securing all the seats he was responsible for.

Dr. Kirori Lal Meena is recognized as a prominent leader within the Meena community of eastern Rajasthan. He was appointed as the Agriculture Minister in the BJP’s Bhajanlal government, which took office in December last year. However, during his campaign for the Lok Sabha elections, he made a significant promise: if the BJP lost even one of the seven seats he was responsible for, he would resign from his position.

On May 17, 2024, during the election campaign, Kirori Lal Meena reiterated his commitment, stating, "When Prime Minister Narendra Modi came to Dausa on April 12 for an election campaign roadshow, he entrusted me with the responsibility of all 7 seats here. If we lose even one of these 7 seats, I will resign as a cabinet minister."
