Udaipur: Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot said on Wednesday that those responsible for riots will not be spared and that the government will guarantee that no violence occurs in the state.
Gehlot, speaking to the press, said, "Action will be taken against the perpetrator to guarantee that no violence occurs in the state. No one has the authority to take the reins of law and order." He also slammed the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for "bulldozing" impoverished people's homes, alleging that it is the party's "homework" to discredit the Congress-led state government.
"They (the BJP) bulldoze the poor's homes. Their high command has given them orders to slander our government and create chaos. Those who have been nominated for Chief Minister...there is competition among them, and they have been given homework, which is why they are going above and above."
According to sources, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has requested a thorough report from the Rajasthan government regarding communal tensions in the state's Jodhpur region. The Ministry is also "keeping a close eye on the situation" and seeking information from the state's administrative and police authorities.
On Tuesday, hours before Eid, tensions erupted in Gehlot's hometown of Jodhpur, causing officials to ban mobile internet connections and impose a curfew in 10 police station regions of the city. There was a ruckus over the placement of religious flags atop the Jalori entrance circle in Jodhpur, which resulted in stone-pelting and the injury of five police officers.
People have been urged to maintain peace and unity, the state Chief Minister urged.
