Rajesh Malhotra names Principal Director General, PIB

New Delhi:  Shri Rajesh Malhotra, a senior Indian Information Service (IIS) officer, has been named the Press Information Bureau's (PIB) principal director general, the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting said in a statement.

Malhotra will serve as the chief spokesperson for the Indian government in his new position. Satyendra Prakash, who assumed leadership of the PIB as principal DG in August 2022, will be replaced by him.

Malhotra, an officer from the 1989 batch, began working for the Ministry of Finance in January 2018. "During the critical Covid-19 pandemic, he effectively guided the Ministry of Finance's media and communication policy in line with the numerous AatmaNirbhar Bharat Packages released by the government over time to give relief to people and maintain fiscal balance," the ministry said.

Malhotra has over 32 years of operational experience in developing and executing media and communication strategies for the Indian Election Commission and numerous central government ministries/departments, including finance, company affairs, agriculture, power, coal, mines, communications and IT, textiles, labour, and new & renewable energy.

In charge of media and communication for the Election Commission of India for 21 years, he worked there until 2017.

Rajesh Malhotra, already designated as the Principal Director General, was handling the media and communication division of the ministries of Finance, Corporate Affairs. He comes with 3 decades of operational experience in planning and implementation of media & communication strategies for the Election Commission of India  (ECI) and various Central ministries and departments.
