The Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award is being given to the country's highest sports award this year to 5 people including Rohit Sharma, the vice-captain of India's limited overs cricket team. This will be the first time in the history of Khel Awards that Khel Ratna is going to be given to 5 people.

The Sports Award-2020 committee on Friday gave Rohit Sharma, women's wrestler Vinesh Phogat, women's hockey team captain Rani Rampal, women's table tennis player Manika Batra and para athlete Mariyappan Thangavelu 29 On the occasion of National Sports Day on August, the Khel Ratna Award will be awarded.

Rohit could be the fourth cricketer to receive the Khel Ratna. Before him Sachin Tendulkar, Mahendra Singh Dhoni and Virat Kohli have received this award. At the same time, 27 players, including Ishant Sharma, are going to be awarded the Arjuna Award on 29 August. The names of Sakshi Malik and Mirabai Chanu have been removed from the final list of awards. These two names were recommended for the Arjuna Award.
