GUWAHATI: For the first time, the President will attend and address at a regional language literary meet in the northeast, which presents a diverse linguistic mosaic and over 200 dialects that have been carefully preserved.

On May 4, President Ram Nath Kovind will deliver the valedictory talk at the 61st annual conference of the Bodo Sahitya Sabha (BSS) at Tamulpur, western Assam. On Monday, the three-day conference will begin.

The Assam government has granted state government employees special casual leave to attend the conference in Kachubari, Tamulpur, which is part of the Bodoland Territorial Region.

"This would be a historic occasion," BSS President Toren C. Boro remarked on Sunday, "since no President of India has ever attended any literary event in any language in the northeast region."  Over 4,000 people from all over the world are anticipated to attend the three-day conference. Apart from Assam, the Bodo language is spoken by a vast number of people in Bangladesh, Nepal, Tripura, Nagaland, and West Bengal.

To make the event a success, the BSS has launched a large campaign and made several arrangements. A theme song for the conference has also been released.

The BSS was founded in 1952 to further the growth of literature, culture, and language, and was inspired by the Assam Sahitya Sabha (ASS). It is a key player in ensuring that different ethnic groups work together. The influential ASS was founded in 1917 with the goal of promoting Assamese literature.
