PRATAPGARH: Two accused were given the death penalty by the POCSO court in the Pratapgarh district of Uttar Pradesh for gang rape and attempted murder of a minor.
The judgment was promulgated within 11 months of the crime that was committed on December 27, 2021.
The court also fined the two defendants Rs 50,000 apiece after finding them guilty of raping the 11-year-old survivor and injuring her left eye, face, and leg bones.
Yogi Adityanath, the chief minister, had ordered quick action against the perpetrators after learning of the crime.
The POCSO court wrapped up the trial in less than ten months and found Halim and Rizwan guilty of rape, kidnapping, and attempting to commit culpable homicide with the minor girl on October 21, 2022. The third suspect was a child.
The prosecution claims that three defendants, Halim, Rizwan, and another, raped and severely wounded the young girl before throwing her down the railroad track and fleeing.
One of the defendants was a minor, therefore the matter was moved to juvenile court.
On the same day, an offence was reported under sections 326 (hurt), 308 (attempt to commit culpable homicide), and 363 (kidnapping) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and POCSO Act at police station Nawabganj in the Pratapgarh district.
