Thiruvananthapuram: A red alert has been issued in Kerala over heavy rains. Met department has warned of heavy rain in the state for three days. The shutter of Kallarkutti Dam in Idukki district has been opened after heavy rains. Several fishermen are reported to be missing in several parts of Kerala. Several dams in the state are flowing above the danger mark due to incessant rains. Two shutters of Malankara Dam in Idukki and nine shutters of Bhuthathanketu Dam in Ernakulam district have been opened to control the water.

Families living in coastal areas have been shifted to relief camps. Dozens of houses near Thavekara railway station in Kannur have been submerged. In addition, trees have been uprooted in different parts of the country because of the speed of the water. The state government has set up several relief camps across the state in view of the dire situation. Out of the seven missing fishermen, three are reported to be from Nindakara of Kollam and four from Vizinjam in Thiruvananthapuram district.

Kerala local authorities have issued an alert for heavy rain in the state on Saturday. According to the Met department, heavy to very heavy rain is expected in different parts of the state for the next few days. The Met department has issued a red alert for Kasargod district today. An orange alert has been issued for Idukki, Kannur, Kozhikode, Malappuram, and Wayanad. Kozhikode and Wayanad have issued Orange Alerts for Red and Malappuram and Kannur for July 21. In addition, a red alert has been issued in Wayanad and Kozhikode districts for the 22nd of July.
