Today, the 162nd birth anniversary of the legendary poet and Nobel Laureate Rabindranath Tagore is being celebrated across the country. 

Rabindranath Tagore was born on May 7, 1861 at Jorsanko Haveli in Kolkata. His father's name was Debendranath Tagore and mother's name was Sarda Devi. Mahatma Gandhi gave Rabindranath Tagore the title of 'Gurudev'.

Rabindranath Tagore used to write poems and stories from the very beginning. Tagore started using new prose and verses and folk language in Bengali literature. Rabindranath Tagore was active in politics. He was in full support of Indian nationalists. In addition, he was opposed to British rule. Let's know some interesting information about him.
Rabindranath Tagore (1861–1941) was great artistic and political thinker. He was a Bengali poet, Brahmo philosopher, and scholar. As a child, Tagore lived between an atmosphere where literary magazines were published, musical recitals were held, and theatre performed.

Rabindranath was the thirteenth child of his parents. As a child, he was called 'Rabi' with love. It was only when he was very young that he lost his mother. He was mostly brought up by his servants and maids. Rabindranath Tagore's father wanted him to become a barrister. So Rabindranath Tagore's father sent him to study in England. At the age of 8, he wrote his first poem, and by the age of 16, he had also started composing works of art.

Tagore started writing poems around age eight, and he was urged by an older brother to recite these to people in the mansion. In 1873, Tagore experienced the first close contact with his father when they set out together from Calcutta on a months-long tour of India.

 "Ekla Chalo Re" "Jana Gana Mana" was two memorable songs written  by him, Gitanjali is also touched by millions of hearts, with which he conferred  Nobel prize for his tremendous literature work. He and his work has always been a great gift of god.
