Kurnool: Immediately solve the problem of drinking water, otherwise the strike will intensify. Residents of Alur town gheraoed empty pots at the Rural Water Scheme (RWS) office on Saturday, demanding a solution to the problem of drinking water supply. Tension prevailed in the campus for some time. CPM leader Narayana Swamy has said that Alur constituency was the home constituency of Labor Minister Gummanoor Jayaram. But the people of this area are facing problems.

The leader demanded the officials of the RWS department to solve the problem of drinking water at the earliest. After staging a sit-in in front of the RWS office, the residents also staged a road roko dharna in Ambedkar circle for two hours. Due to the blockade of the road, there has been a traffic jam. Vehicles were seen stranded for several kilometers on both sides of the road. Police reached the spot and controlled the situation.

Later the CPM leaders submitted a memorandum to RWS Deputy Engineer (DE) Santappa. The DE said that the water workers engaged in the supply of water are on strike due to non-payment of salary. He said that dues of Rs 14.90 lakh of water workers are yet to be paid. He further said that a proposal to release the amount has been sent. He assured to solve the drinking water problem.
