New Delhi: The matter of stopping dearness allowance of the employees of the Modi government of the Center has now reached the top court. A retired army officer has approached the Supreme Court on this issue. In the petition filed, there has been a demand from the court to direct the Central Government to withdraw the decision to cut dearness allowance.

Retired Major Onkar Singh Guleria has filed this petition. Onkar Singh Guleria, a cancer victim, has said before the Supreme Court that I live in a rented house with a sick wife and the only source of my income is a monthly military pension. There are lakhs of retired employees who are dependent on pension, but now they are upset with the Central Government's decision to withhold dearness allowance.

The petitioner says that when the coronavirus is proving fatal to people all over the world, especially for the elderly, then the decision to cut dearness allowance at such a time is not right. Pension is the only support for pensioners like us. The petitioner asked the Supreme Court to direct the central government to abide by what the PM said, "take care of senior citizens and not cut salary, corona for senior citizens than others"
