Actor Rishab Shetty has earned the prestigious Best Actor award for his remarkable performance in the hit film 'Kantara' during the 70th National Film Awards. The announcement came from the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting in New Delhi on Friday.

Shetty’s powerful portrayal of a Kambala champion in 'Kantara', set in the fictional village of Dakshina Kannada, captivated audiences nationwide. His character’s intense conflict with a Forest Range officer has left a lasting impression on the film industry, earning the film additional recognition with the 'Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment' award.

Meanwhile, the Best Actress award was shared by two talented women—Nithya Menen for her role in the Tamil film 'Thiruchitrambalam' and Manasi Parekh for her performance in the Gujarati movie 'Kutch Express'.

The awards, which honor the top cinematic achievements of 2022, were determined by a jury led by prominent figures in Indian cinema. Rahul Rawail, as the Chairperson of the Feature Film Jury, Nila Madhab Panda for Non-Feature Films, and Gangadhar Mudalair for Best Writing on Cinema, played a pivotal role in selecting the winners.

In the Hindi film category, Manoj Bajpayee’s film 'Gulmohar' took home the award for Best Hindi Film and received a special mention. Directed by Rahul V. Chittella, 'Gulmohar' portrays the emotional journey of the Batra family as they prepare to leave their home of 34 years, Gulmohar, and rediscover the complex bonds of love and secrets that hold them together. Alongside Bajpayee, the film features stellar performances by Sharmila Tagore, Simran, and Suraj Sharma.

The Best Feature Film honor was awarded to the Malayalam-language drama 'Aattam,' which further showcased the depth of talent in India’s regional cinema.

As the 70th National Film Awards celebrated cinematic excellence across India, it continued the tradition of recognizing outstanding talent. Last year, the 69th edition of the awards saw notable wins for Allu Arjun, Alia Bhatt, Kriti Sanon, and Pankaj Tripathi, highlighting the diversity and range of Indian cinema.
