The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) is hosting a two-day gathering with its affiliated groups in Jammu starting today. They plan to talk about the changing political situation in Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) and strategies for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
This meeting is important because of a recent Supreme Court decision supporting the removal of Article 370. The Court directed the Election Commission of India (ECI) to hold elections in J&K by September 30, 2024. There's a chance that the ECI won't hold the state and national elections at the same time in Jammu and Kashmir.
The BJP is hopeful about gaining power in J&K after winning in MP, Rajasthan, and Chhattisgarh. They've also introduced four bills that could affect regional parties and benefit the BJP.
Key figures expected at the meeting are Seh Sarkariva Dr Krishan Gopal from Sangh, BJP leaders Tarun Chugh and Ashish Sood, RSS Pranth Pracharak Rupesh Kumar, and heads of various Sangh sister organizations. Chugh and Sood might attend the BJP’s upcoming workshop on the Vishwakarma Yojna announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The one-day workshop, to be held at the BJP Headquarters in Trikuta Nagar, will include J&K BJP president Ravinder Raina, general secretary Ashok Koul, senior leaders, UT office-bearers, district presidents, Morcha heads, and OBC Morcha leaders from across the UT led by president Sunil Prajapati.
The RSS Coordination Committee meeting, involving senior BJP leaders and their affiliates, will discuss the current political situation in the UT and the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in J&K. They might talk about the possibility of holding assembly elections in the UT along with next year's Lok Sabha polls. Since Assembly polls for four states coincide with the Lok Sabha elections, the issue of J&K assembly elections is significant.
The meeting aims to improve cooperation among RSS affiliates, address identified issues, and prepare for the upcoming polls. The BJP workshop will highlight the advantages of PM’s Vishwakarma Yojna, which has a budget of Rs 13,000 crore.
A subsequent five-day registration camp aims to widen the scheme's reach among people from various trades across the UT. Participants will get training, stipends, tool kits, diplomas, and access to new technologies to improve their skills.
The BJP has also planned a meeting for office-bearers to strategize for the Lok Sabha polls, review the implementation of Modi Government schemes, assess the impact of Viksit Bharat Yatra, and organize events celebrating former Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee's birthday on December 25, along with other party programs.
