Lucknow: Public awareness about pollution, the ongoing pandemic, and the government's ban on non-green crackers appear to have had a significant impact on the sale of firecrackers in Uttar Pradesh. In comparison to previous years, there are fewer shops selling firecrackers in Lucknow, Kanpur, Prayagraj, and other major cities.

According to Ajmal, who has been selling crackers for 19 years, "There are numerous restrictions that the police are abusing. We have no idea which ones are green crackers and which aren't. The cops are harassing us and attempting to extort money from us. Furthermore, the government has stated that cracker shops should only be set up in public areas. If you don't have a shop in the market area, no one will come to buy crackers." He claimed that the majority of his coworkers in the industry had decided not to open cracker shops this year.

There used to be around 1,500 firecracker shops in the state capital on average, but that number has dropped to 500 this year. The majority of shops have applied for permission in the north zone's trans-Gomti area. Prachi Singh, the ADCP for the north, said that 185 stores had applied for permission to sell firecrackers as of Monday night. A three-day temporary permit has been issued to shopkeepers from one window, according to Piyush Mordia, Joint Commissioner of Police, Law and Order.
