Kolkata: Samantak Das, pro-vice-chancellor of Jadavpur University in West Bengal's capital Kolkata, was found dead at his home on Wednesday. According to the information provided by the police, after being found in a mysterious state in the house, he was taken to Bangur Hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead. The police then took the body into custody and sent it for post-mortem. It is being told that Professor Das was in depression for some reason in the last few days.

University officials have informed that when Prof. Das did not reach his office today, a car was sent to pick him up, but there was no response from inside when he knocked on the door. The neighbours then broke and open the door of his house, after which it was seen that the professor's body was hanging from the fan. An official from the Regent Park police station said, "We have sent the body for post-mortem. We are also investigating the matter urgently. On hearing the news of Das's death, all the students and staff members of the university gathered on campus and expressed grief.'' Let me tell you, a few years ago, Das's wife also committed suicide.  

University Vice-Chancellor Suranjan Das said, "The Jadavpur University family today lost one of its most important office bearers who was a prominent face of the institute. His demise is a huge loss and it has left an empty space that cannot be filled.''
