Sambit Patra reached supreme court against ban on Jagannath Yatra

Bhubaneswar: In view of the threat of Coronavirus across the country, the apex court has banned the Rath Yatra of Lord Jagannath. Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Sambit Patra has also reached the Supreme Court and filed a petition. Sambit Patra contested Lok Sabha elections on a BJP ticket from Puri.

The petition said that Rath Yatra can be allowed to be conducted without the congregation of devotees who turned out to be negative in the Covid test. This Yatra has been banned because of the increasing infection of the coronavirus. Hearing the petition prohibiting Rath Yatra, Chief Justice of India SA Bobde had said that keeping in mind the safety of the people, we consider it appropriate to stop the Rath Yatra this year and it is ordered that No rath yatra should be organized in the temple areas.

The Odisha cabinet has also decided to follow the order of the top court on the Rath Yatra. Lord Jagannath's Rath Yatra will not be organized in Puri. This decision was taken in an emergency meeting of the state cabinet chaired by the state CM Naveen Patnaik following the order of the Supreme Court.
