Sarada Menon, India's first female psychiatrist, passes away

Tamil Nadu – Chennai: Sarada Menon, India's first female psychiatrist, passes away at Chennai. M.K. Stalin, the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, expressed his condolences on the demise of Sarada Menon, India's first female psychiatrist, on Monday.

Sarada Menon, who was 98 years old at the time, was also the founder of the Schizophrenia Research Foundation (SCARF India). On Sunday evening, she passed away

Chief Minister MK Stalin said the death of Menon, a Padma Bhushan awardee, is a loss for the medical fraternity. Menon has also received the Avvaiyar Award from the Tamil Nadu government, Stalin said.

Menon earned her medical degree from Madras Medical College and finished her residency in psychiatry at Bengaluru's National Institute of Mental Health and Neuro Sciences (NIMHANS).
