New Delhi: Satya Narayan Pradhan, an Indian Police Service (IPS) officer from the Jharkhand cadre, has been appointed as Director-General of the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) on a deputation basis until August 31, 2024, or until further orders.

Despite being the Director-General of the National Disaster Response Force, S N Pradhan was currently holding the additional charge of NCB chief (NDRF). Following the appointment of Rakesh Asthana as Delhi Police Commissioner, Pradhan was given this additional responsibility. Atul Karwal, a Gujarat cadre IPS officer from the 1988 batch, will now be the NDRF Director-General.

The Ministry of Home Affairs has directed the concerned wing to seek approval from the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) for Pradhan's appointment as Director-General, NCB on a deputation basis "with effect from the date of his assumption of charge of the post and until his superannuation on August 31, 2024, or until further orders, whichever is earlier," according to the ministry. The ministry also requested that Pradhan be relieved of his duties as Director-General of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) as soon as possible so that he can begin his new job.
