Supreme Court began the hearing a batch of petitions challenging the constitutional validity of Article 35A, that grants special privileges to the residents of the state of Jammu and Kashmir. Supreme Court has deferred hearing on the same case. Supreme Court today agreed that it will hear the petitions after Panchayat elections are over.

Muzaffar Baig who was representing PDP (Peoples Democratic Party) in hearing on Article 35A in Supreme Court said that, it was a wise and deliberate decision taken by Supreme Court. He added  that there is no harm in adjourning the case but there was harm in continuing hearing the case as that would disturb the local body (Panchayat) polls.

Advocate DK Dubey, said on hearing on Article 35A in SC that Govt of India argued before SC and the hearing should be postponed till Panchayat elections. He added that  the hearing should over as there may be law and order problem in J&K.

In a hearing on Article 35A ASG Tushar Mehta representing J&K submitted before SC said, "All the security agencies are engaged in the preparation of the local body elections in the state”.

AG KK Venugopal appearing for Centre told SC that let local body elections finish in a peaceful manner.
