New Delhi: The Supreme Court stayed all pending petitions filed in different high courts in India. The plea filled in courts is to seek regulation over the content on online platforms such as Amazon Prime, Hotstar, and Netflix.

The reports state that at least 15 such petitions are pending in different high courts. But now the central government wants the apex court to transfer all these pleas to it and make a decision on the issue. The government order came on a transfer plea to club all these petitions filed in various high courts. To which the top court had sent notices in all these cases, but no improvement has been made as the notices are yet to be served in some cases. Recently, the government also introduced steps to monitor such content and address grievances. The government has also currently recognized 40 OTT platforms that live stream content.

NGO Justice for Rights Foundation petitioned the apex court to sought regulation of content by a censor-board. In a separate proceeding, the court had said that the regulations lack provisions for enforcement following which the Centre agreed to revise the rules.
