NEW DELHI: On Wednesday, February 23, the Supreme Court will hear a petition seeking an urgent listing of a case requesting the cancellation of physical tests for Class 10 and 12 that are planned to be held by all state boards, CBSE, ICSE, and NIOS.

The petition will be heard by a bench led by Justice A.M. Khanwilkar, who oversaw the administration of exams last year using the CBSE's 30:30:40 alternative grading methodology.

Many students studying in CBSE, ICSE, NIOS, and state boards addressed the petitioner, Anubha Shrivastava Sahai, for troubles they were having with board exams and are directly affected by the decision of this PIL, according to the plea, submitted through counsel Prashant Padmanabhan.

"The other petitioners include students and parents from several states who were dissatisfied with the Board's decision." That the mental strain placed on kids to achieve well on this exam is so great that every year, a number of students commit themselves because they are afraid of under-performing or failing," the plea stated.

Padmanabhan brought the case before a bench led by Justice Khanwilkar on Tuesday for an urgent hearing. The bench ordered that the CBSE be served with an advance copy of the petition.  "To force students come and face examinations with the additional risk of becoming infected by the Covid-19 virus will not only be unjust, but it will also be downright inhuman," the petition said..
