Los Angeles: Hollywood star Scarlett Johansson has provided an update on the development of the upcoming Amazon thriller series, Just Cause, revealing that work is actively underway on its script.

Initially announced by Amazon in 2022, the project faced delays due to a writer's strike but is now progressing. "It's coming along... It's being written," Johansson, 39, shared with Deadline during the premiere of her upcoming film Fly Me To The Moon.

"There was a little bit of a pause during the strike so some of the development, it was like everyone – we were in a holding pattern, but we’re now writing away,” she added.

Just Cause, originally a thriller mystery released in 1995 starring Johansson alongside Sean Connery, was based on John Katzenbach’s 1992 novel. Johansson is set to star in and executive produce the show, with changes including the gender of the main protagonist, now Madison 'Madi' Cowart, a struggling reporter covering a death row inmate for a Florida newspaper.

The original film, directed by Arne Glimcher, featured Laurence Fishburne, Ed Harris, Blair Underwood, and Kate Capshaw. It was Johansson's second film following her debut in North in 1994 as a child artist.

Filmmaker Cord Jefferson and writer John Wells are co-writing the first episode of the new version of Just Cause, both serving as executive producers under John Wells Productions.

In addition to her work on Just Cause, Johansson's upcoming film Fly Me To The Moon, directed by Greg Berlanti and distributed by Columbia Pictures, is scheduled for release on July 12. The romantic comedy, set against the backdrop of NASA’s Apollo 11 moon landing, also stars Channing Tatum and Woody Harrelson.
