In the Bangladesh general elections, PM Sheikh Hasina's party Awami League has won the elections with a huge margin, but cases of violence were reported at many places in this election. Sheikh Hasina's party got 2 lakh 49 thousand 465 votes in the general elections 2024, while the opposition parties got only 469 votes. Many main opposition parties of the country have also boycotted the elections. Western countries were already saying that this election will go in favor of Sheikh Hasina in any case because she is 'trying to suppress democracy'.

Who is Sheikh Hasina?: Sheikh Hasina is the supreme leader of Awami League. She has been the PM of Bangladesh continuously since 2009. Before this, she had held the post of Prime Minister from 1996 to 2001. After victory in the voting held on Sunday, Sheikh Hasina is going to assume the post of President of Bangladesh for the fifth time. Sheikh Hasina is the daughter of the Father of the Nation of Bangladesh Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. Although Sheikh Hasina was not interested in politics but due to circumstances she had to come to power.

When father was murdered: Bangladesh became a separate country in the year 1971. Before this, this area was known as East Pakistan and was ruled by the Pakistani government. The first leader of this new country was Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. But it had only been a few years since Mujib Rahman came to power that instability spread in the country. During the communist movement, Sheikh's government was overthrown. In the year 1975, the army killed the entire family of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, but Sheikh Hasina and her sister Rehana survived because they were in Germany at that time. Bangladesh remained under military occupation for the next 15 years.

Indira Gandhi had given political asylum: Sheikh Hasina contacted Bangladesh Ambassador to Germany Humayun Rashid Choudhary. Humayun had good influence among many diplomats of India, so once he even talked to Indian Ambassador YK Puri about giving political asylum to Sheikh Hasina and her sister. The then PM Indir Gandhi got wind of this and he immediately called Sheikh Hasina and her sister to India by Air India plane. Along with this, Sheikh Hasina's husband Dr. Wajed was given fellowship in the Department of Atomic Energy. The Government of India had given a flat to Sheikh Hasina near Pandara Road. She was here for almost 6 years.

Homecoming:   After living in India for 6 years, she went to Bangladesh and started politics with BTP leader Khaleda Zia. In the year 1991, Khaleda Zia became the first woman PM. Only five years later, Sheikh Hasina's Awami Party has won the elections. Sheikh Hasina became Prime Minister for the first time in the year 1996.
