Shimla: Himachal Pradesh Urban Development Minister Suresh Bhardwaj said on Wednesday that Shimla, the state's summer capital, was ranked top in the NITI Aayog's Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Urban Index.
The index used 56 urban areas to measure SDG indicators such as poverty eradication, hunger eradication, excellent health and well-being, quality education, gender equality, and so on. This year, Shimla took first place with 75.50 points out of a possible 100.
The statistics methodology for the SDG Urban Index, according to the minister, is based on the Sustainable Development Solutions Network's globally recognised approach (SDSN).
The index is based on a comprehensive set of 77 indicators that encompass 46 global SDG targets across 15 SDGs. Shimla was also named the most livable city in the country in the Ease of Living Index, which was released earlier this year. This was determined using four criteria: quality of life, economic capability, long-term sustainability, and citizen perception.
