NEW DELHI: A Delhi court today, May 23, extended the judicial custody of jailed Aam Aaadmi Party leader and former Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia till June 1 in connection with the excise policy case being probed by the Enforcement Directorate. The jail officials were also directed to consider his request to offer him a chair and table for study purposes. A copy of the detailed order is awaited.

The Delhi court had, on May 12, extended Sisodia's judicial custody till June 2, in the case being investigated by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). The Enforcement Directorate had arrested Sisodia on March 9, after the Central Bureau of Investigation arrested him on February 26 this year.

The Enforcement Directorate has alleged that Manish Sisodia was the mastermind behind the entire excise policy case and that he had deliberately leaked the policy to the co-accused to generate financial kickbacks.

On April, Special Judge MK Nagpal had denied bail to the Sisodia holding that the evidence, prima facie, "speaks volumes" of his involvement in commission of the offence.

Manish Sisodia is an Indian politician and a prominent member of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), a political party in India. He has held various important positions in the Delhi government and has been a key figure in the party's leadership.

Sisodia has a background in journalism and activism. He worked as a journalist before joining the AAP, where he played a crucial role in the party's formation and growth. He became a close associate of Arvind Kejriwal, the founder of the AAP, and served as his deputy when Kejriwal became the Chief Minister of Delhi.

Under his leadership, the Delhi government launched initiatives like the "Happiness Curriculum" and "Entrepreneurship Mindset Curriculum" to foster holistic development and entrepreneurial skills among students.
