With just three months left until the highly anticipated India vs Pakistan match in Ahmedabad on October 15 as part of the 2023 ICC Men's Cricket World Cup, cricket fans are facing a major challenge—skyrocketing airfares. The flight tickets for October 14, a day before the match, have seen a significant surge in price, especially on the Delhi-Ahmedabad and Mumbai-Ahmedabad sectors. Currently, a one-way direct flight from Delhi to Ahmedabad or Mumbai to Ahmedabad costs between ₹15,000 to ₹22,000.

Nishant Pitti, CEO and co-founder of EaseMyTrip, shed light on the immense popularity of the India vs Pakistan match, stating that since the official announcement, there has been a whopping 5X increase in hotel tariffs for a single night. Luxury hotels have been charging exorbitant rates as high as ₹50,000 per night. However, it's not just the hotels, but even flight tickets are experiencing a surge. Even if people book their flights three months in advance, airfares are six times more expensive than usual. For example, an economy class Delhi-Ahmedabad ticket in August and September would cost around ₹3,000, but on the day before the match, it would skyrocket to ₹20,000. Pitti further mentioned that the demand for flight tickets and searches on their website has reached an all-time high, with the majority of cricket enthusiasts already booking their tickets well in advance.

Aloke Bajpai, Group CEO and Co-Founder of ixigo, highlighted the surge in travel queries to all the host cities, including Ahmedabad. He pointed out that last year, the average one-way flight fare for Delhi to Ahmedabad was ₹4,973, whereas this year it has skyrocketed to ₹12,000 for Indigo flights and ₹22,000 for Vistara flights, representing a staggering 100% increase. Bajpai also warned that airfares may continue to rise close to the match dates, depending on the demand and availability.

Furthermore, a further sharp spike in airfares is expected in the coming months. Krishna Mohan, MD of Southern Travels, predicted that prices will peak by the end of September, potentially even reaching up to ten times the normal fares for flights from Delhi to Ahmedabad. The highly anticipated cricket match between India and Pakistan is a significant contributor to this surge. Additionally, the forthcoming Navratri holiday in Gujarat, which begins on the same day as the match, further amplifies the demand for travel to Ahmedabad, consequently driving up prices.

In conclusion, cricket enthusiasts planning to attend the India vs Pakistan World Cup match in Ahmedabad are facing skyrocketing airfares and hotel tariffs. The demand for tickets and accommodations has reached unprecedented levels, leading to significant price increases. As the match draws closer, it is expected that airfares will continue to rise, posing a considerable challenge for fans eager to witness this historic clash on the cricket field.
