LJUBLJANA: Prime Minister Robert Golob's center-left government was reaffirmed by the Slovenian parliament with 53 votes to 28 votes.

On Wednesday, the new 18-member government took power, replacing the previous prime minister Janez Jansa's centre-right cabinet.

"The new government truly wants to work in the best interests of all citizens and for the good of the country," Golob said before the vote in parliament.

Golob formed a government coalition with the Social Democrats and the Left after his Freedom Movement (FM) party won a majority win in the April 24 general election. According to reports, the three parties collectively control 53 of the 90 seats in parliament.

He has stated that the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, alleviating the burden of growing energy expenses, improving the public health system, and upholding the rule of law and media freedom are among his cabinet's primary priorities.
