New Delhi: Congress Parliamentary Party leader and UPA Chairman Sonia Gandhi has made serious allegations against the Modi government over the Right to Information Act (Amendment) Bill in the Lok Sabha. Sonia Gandhi has alleged that the Centre is trying to make completely inactive to the Historic Right to Information Act, 2005. Sonia said the legislation was passed unanimously in Parliament after a lot of deliberations.

He said the law is now on the verge of collapse. Sonia said that in the past decade, more than 60 lakh countrymen, especially women, have exercised the right to information. This law empowers transparency and fairness at all levels of administration. More and more RTI use has greatly benefited the weaker sections of the society. He accused the government of being unusable to the present Modi government.

Sonia Gandhi said the Modi government wanted to end the independence of the Central Information Commission, which was kept at par with the Central Election Commission and the Central Vigilance Commission. Sonia Gandhi made the statement even after the opposition opposed the Lok Sabha after the passage of the RTI Amendment Bill, 2019.
