New Delhi: Sonia Gandhi has sent a message to chief ministers to rein in themselves by appointing Navjot Singh Sidhu as the president of the state Congress unit despite strong opposition from Punjab CM Amarinder Singh. Congress insiders said months of talks with Amarinder Singh proved futile, so the high command finally took its decision.

Insiders say the action is a message to the State Satraps of the Congress as well as the Chief Ministers who are vocal themselves. The Congress is also facing punjab-like situation in Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh, where Sachin Pilot and T.S. Singh Dev has ambitions to become CM respectively. The pilot had raised the flag of revolt in the party only last year. Singh Dev, on the other hand, has been careful. For the record, he says, 'Soniaji and Rahul Gandhiji will take a decision.' He was recently in Delhi on a personal visit after which Chhattisgarh CM Bhupesh Baghel arrived in Delhi.

During his visit to Delhi, Baghel said he would abide by the leadership's decision and returned to Raipur in the same plane with Singh Dev. The Congress high command is finally vocal after the 2019 electoral debacle and then the collapse of the coalition government in Karnataka and the fall of its government in Madhya Pradesh.
