New Delhi: Union Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment Ramdas Athawale, who has always been known for his frank statements, has recently once again made a frank statement. In fact, during a recent programme, he supported the caste census and said, "His party is in favour of it.''

Union Minister Athawale made the statement after the government recently told the Supreme Court that the Caste-based census of backward classes is "administratively difficult and challenging." Not only that, but Ramdas Athawale also supported the caste census and said, "There should be a caste census which will show the number of people of which caste is in the country.'' He further said, "This demand is very old for us and caste census will not increase casteism in the country.''

Praising NCP chief Sharad Pawar, Ramdas Athawale said, "He is a suitable candidate for the prime minister's post and Sonia Gandhi should have replaced Manmohan Singh with Sharad Pawar as prime minister. Sonia Gandhi should have been made a prime minister when the UPA came to power. If Kamala Harris can become US Vice President, why can't Sonia Gandhi become PM, who is an Indian citizen, wife of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi and a Lok Sabha member?'' At the same time, Ramdas Athawale also said, "Even after the UPA came to power, he had said that Sonia Gandhi's foreign origin issue did not make any discernment.''
