Sonowal, Zoramthanga hold talks to restore peace after Assam-Mizoram border tension

Dispur: Tension prevailed on the Assam-Mizoram border after a violent clash took place between the people of the two States. At least four were injured and several huts were set ablaze on the Assam-Mizoram border on Saturday night. The incident took place between residents of Lailapur village in Assam’s Cachar district and residents of localities near Vairengte in Kolasib district of Mizoram. Chief ministers of both the states held talks after tension at the border of the two states on Saturday. 

 Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Sunday apprised the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) and Union home ministry on phone about the prevailing situation at  the border. According to the officials, "Tension prevailed on the border after a violent clash took place between the people of the two States. CM also telephoned his Mizoram counterpart Zoramthanga and talked to him about the incident that took place at the border. He also stressed on taking productive measures and joint efforts to address the border issues. He foucsed on resolving the border dispute and to work with cooperation for maintaining peace and law & order at the inter-state border.

Chief Minister said that north east is experiencing rapid progress under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. However, to maintain the momentum, there is a need to maintain peace and boosting relations between the States. He further said that there might have differences but all differences must be settled through dialogue. Mizoram CM Zoramthanga assured chief minister Sonowal to maintain peace at the inter-state border and working with cooperation.
