India's star badminton player Kidambi Srikanth has made a stunning start with a win at the BWF World Championships. The Indian shuttler defeated Spain's Pablo ABN in the first round on Sunday. India's 12th seed Srikanth defeated the local player 21-12 21-16 in just 36 minutes in the first round of the men's singles event.
In the other match, the doubles pair of Manu Attri and B Sumit Reddy were eliminated after losing in the first round. The Indian pair lost 16-21 15-21 to Denmark's Joel and Rasmus.
Earlier in the day, Pooja Dandu and Sanjana Santosh retired after losing 12-21 in the first game in the women's doubles event. Defending champion PV Sindhu will face Slovakia's Martina Repisca in the women's singles event. Sindhu is in the first round with a bye so she will be seen playing a straight second round match.
