Dehradun: A stampede broke out when police started pelting lathis on youths protesting against the Agneepath scheme in Haldwani, Uttarakhand. Meanwhile, several youths jumped into the canal to avoid lathicharge. Along with Haldwani, the students also started protesting in Tanakpur. The police used force to drive away the protesters. In Haldwani, students' protest against the Agneepath scheme continues. Here, when the students created a jam near Tikonia, the police had to resort to lathi charge. Some students here jumped into the canal to escape the lathi charge.

However, there are no reports of any kind of incident yet. Some students were injured. Heavy force has been deployed in the entire city due to heavy protests by students. The drone is being monitored. Meanwhile, the students protesting against the scheme submitted a memorandum to the City Magistrate. In Lohaghat also, the youths came out in protest against the Agneepath recruitment. Last Thursday also , youths from Garampani, Khairna, Majhera, Kfulta, Gargol, Seema, Vyasi of Nainital district had gathered at the main market and shouted slogans against the government.

Union Minister of State for Defence Ajay Bhatt, who arrived in Haldwani on a three-day visit, urged the youth to stop the protest. In a discussion about the scheme, he said that the Agneepath scheme will have the interest of the students, not harmful. He said that almost all the states have also issued a request to make adjustments for the students who feel that after 4 years of recruitment, they will lose other job opportunities for them.
