State government issues directives for setting up of Yoga Commission

Bhopal: (Bureau Report) - The state government has set up a Yoga Commission to promote awareness, propagation and yoga education about yoga in the state. An independent office of the Commission will be set up at The Government Yoga Training Centre Bhopal with one Secretary, Ex-officio Director Maharishi Sanskrit Sansthan, two multitosking staff and security and sanitation workers (outsourcing) as per requirement. The Commission may, from time to time, obtain subject-specialist, professional service and advisory services from external sources as per requirement. An order in this regard has been issued by the School Education Department.

Purpose of the Commission: The objective of the Yoga Commission is that it will be a body constituted by the Administrative Department, which will promote awareness, propagation and yoga education on Yoga so that yoga can become a part of lifelong life from infancy.

Duties of the Commission: The Yoga Commission will implement and review yoga related schemes, yoga programmes. Institutions/individuals who have done outstanding work in the field of Yoga will be selected for honour and award. Will conduct residential and non-residential yoga trainings. It will promote yoga among teachers and students in government and non-government schools of the state. It will motivate the government officials and employees to do yoga to keep them physically and mentally healthy and conduct trainings as per the need. The Commission will conduct its activities through Maharishi Patanjali Sanskrit Sansthan. The Commission will be registered under the Societies Act. The Department of School Education will be the administrative department of the Commission, which will frame the rules for the smooth functioning of the Commission.

Composition of the Commission: The Minister of School Education will be the ex-officio Chairman of the Commission, Chairman of Maharishi Patanjali Sanskrit Sansthan, ex-officio Vice-Chairman and Secretary to the post of Director of Maharishi Patanjali Sanskrit Sansthan. Also, 5 non-government members having work experience in the field of Yoga will be nominated by the State Government. The Commission will have representatives of Additional Chief Secretary/Principal Secretary/Secretary of The Department of School Education, Higher Education, Technical Education, AYUSH and Medical Education, Social Justice, Sports and Youth Welfare, Tribal Affairs and Scheduled Castes Development and Backward Classes Minorities Welfare department as official members. Members of Nehru Yuva Kendra, National Service Scheme, National Cadet Corps, Scout-Guides and other groups may be invited as special invitees as members as per the requirement in the Commission. The tenure of non-government members will be 5 years.
