Incidents of attack on statues of Communist idol Lenin, social reformer Periyar and right wing intellectual Shyama Prasad Mukherjee have staged protests in Tripura, Tamil Nadu and Bengal. Security has been deployed in these states amid protests.

Rajnath Singh asks Tripura governor to ensure harmony

Concerned over such incidents, Union home minister Rajnath Singh asked Governor Tathagata Roy and state DGP AK Shukla to make sure peace and harmony until the new BJP-IPFT government takes charge.

Earlier in the morning in West Bengal,  Bharatiya Jana Sangh founder Syama Prasad Mukherjee's bust was vandalized in Kolkata's Kalighat, at Keoratola Mohasoshan, Kolkata.

PM Narendra Modi also spoke to HM in this regard & has expressed his strong disapproval of such incidents.

MHA has asked the states that they must take all necessary measures to prevent such incidents.

“Persons indulging in such acts must be sternly dealt with & booked under relevant provisions of law, “Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) said.

Incidents of toppling of statues have been reported from certain parts of the nation. MHA has taken serious notes of such incidents of vandalism.
