Steel minister to dedicate JSPL Rebar mill to nation today in Odisha

Odisha : Union Steel Minister Ram Chandra Prasad Singh will dedicate to the nation Jindal Steel and Power Limited's (JSPL) rebar mill at its steel plant in Odisha on Thursday. JSPL said in a statement on Wednesday that the 1.4 MTPA rebar mill is one of the world's largest rebar-making units.

The rebar manufacturing plant is located at JSPL's 6 MTPA plant in Angul, Odisha. At its Angul plant, the company uses coal gasification technology to produce steel.

Naveen Jindal, Chairman of JSPL, said, "We are fortunate to have India's largest TMT rebar mill dedicated to the nation. In keeping with our commitment to sustainable steel production and the use of swadeshi coal in steel production, we opened India's first CGP-based DRI plant in Angul ".

He added that JSPL is committed to the government's climate commitment at COP26 to become a carbon-neutral nation by 2070.

VR Sharma, the MD of JSPL, said: "We are pleased to announce that we can now produce 50 mm TMT rebars, the first of their kind in the country. Our R&D team successfully developed 50 mm rebars and obtained BIS approval for the same ".

JSPL, a subsidiary of the OP Jindal Group, has a significant presence in the steel, power, and mining sectors, with global investments totaling around Rs 90,000 crore.
