New Delhi: Faisal Patel, son of senior Congress leader and Rajya Sabha MP Ahmed Patel, is on ED's radar. The Enforcement Directorate today will interrogate Faisal once again on Monday. The ED has also sent him summon. This is his fourth inquiry into the Sterling Biotech case. The Sterling Biotech company is accused of money laundering and fraud with banks. The ED also convicted Ahmed Patel's son-in-law and lawyer Irfan Siddiqui after an inquiry into the case on July 30.
According to the ED, an employee of the Sandesara Group has alleged that Chetan Sandesara had given code names to lawyers Irfan Siddiqui and Faisal Patel. In June, the ED had seized more than 9 thousand crore assets in the Sterling Biotech fraud case. Sterling Biotech is a pharmaceutical company from Gujarat. The company is accused of fraud of Rs 14,500 crore. According to officials, Sterling Biotech had taken a loan of Rs 5000 crore from a group of banks led by Andhra Bank.
This resulted in NPAs due to non-payment of debt by the company. The total value of this loan default is estimated at 8100 crores. The ED has registered a case of fraud on Sterling Biotech based on the CBI's charge sheet. Let me tell you that Ahmed Patel has been accusing the government of misusing probe agencies. He said it was a conspiracy to harass him. Ahmed Patel is considered to be closest to Sonia Gandhi.
