Suicide attack resurfaces in Afghanistan, 63 killed, over 100 injured

KABUL: A suicide attack took place late Saturday night in Afghanistan's capital Kabul. While 63 people have lost their lives in the attack, more than 100 are said to be injured. The blast happened at a wedding hall in Dubai city, west of Kabul. More than a thousand guests were present at the event. Local media quoted an Interior Ministry spokesman as saying that the blast took place late Saturday night.

He said the death toll in the blast could rise. According to the news agency Xinhua, spokesman Nasrat Rahimi wrote on Twitter that the blast took place around 10.40 p.m. (local time) inside the city-e-Dubai Wedding Hall in Kabul's Police District 6. Details of the nature of the explosion and the exact number of killed and injured will be shared with the media later."

When the explosion occurred near the stage in the two-storey building, dozens of people were present inside the wedding hall. Eyewitnesses said the hall was full of people who had come to attend an Afghan couple's wedding ceremony. Security forces have cordoned off the entire area as a precautionary measure. No terrorist group or individual has claimed responsibility for the incident at this time.
