Sujit Kumar was born on 7 February in the year 1934 in Banaras. He belonged to a very rich farmer's family. Sujit decided to go to London for his studies but he thought why not study law first. Staying in his city, he started studying law and started getting involved in the plays in the colleges. Once upon a time, Sujit participated in a play in his college and Phani Majumdar, a famous film director of liked Sujit's work in the play. He advised him to make his career in films.
Majumdar signed Sujit Kumar for his film 'Akash Deep'. Dharmendra, Nanda and Ashok Kumar were in the lead roles in this film.He said that he should become an assistant for the time being and he would also get a character to play in the next film. Majumdan who introduced Sujit Kumar to famous filmmaker Shakti Samant. And Shakti introduced Sujit to filmmaker Jimmy Nirula.
