New Delhi: The top court has agreed to hear the plea to set the spending limit for corona treatment in private hospitals. The Supreme Court wants a response from the Central Government in this matter. Solicitor General Tushar Mehta has been asked to take a reply from the Health Ministry in a week. The case will be heard after one week.

Earlier, the Supreme Court had sought answers from the Center on corona treatment for free or reduced expenses in private and charitable hospitals. The affidavit has been filed by the Center on Thursday. The Center said that it has no statutory power to provide free treatment to corona patients in private or charitable hospitals. In the affidavit, the Modi government of the Center has said that there is no provision under the Clinical Establishment Act, 2010, under which it should be made mandatory that private hospitals running on public land will treat Corona patients free of cost. Such policies can only be implemented by the respective state governments.

The central government said that the demand for free treatment will directly affect the financial health of the charitable hospitals. This will not only be in the interest of justice, but it will be desirable that the charitable institutions be given a chance to be heard before issuing any order as they will be directly affected by this order.
