New Delhi: The Supreme Court has given an important verdict on the people selling goods by ferrying them. The top court said that hawkers can sell their goods by roaming around as per the rules and regulations laid down for them, but they do not have the right to keep their stock in any public place at night. It's illegal to do so.

A bench of Justices M R Shah and B V Nas, in its judgement, dismissed hawker's claim that he had filed a petition claiming to keep the leftover goods at the same place after the sale during the day. The case pertains to Sarojini Nagar Market in New Delhi. Madan Lal, a hawker there, filed a case in the Delhi High Court against the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC), saying he was not being allowed to keep goods at night in his place. When the market is closed, the NDMC administration asks them to remove the goods. This is an atrocity on them. Let the court do justice.

A bench of Justices Vipin Sanghi and Jasmeet Singh dismissed the plea. Madan Lal appealed in the apex court against the Delhi High Court's decision, which turned down Madan Lal's plea while upholding the high court's verdict. The supreme court said that as per hawking rules, permission is only to sell goods. Don't stock up and keep stuff there overnight or on holidays.
