New Delhi: Human rights activist Gautam Navlakha, accused in Bhima Koregaon violence case, has got a big relief from the top court. The court has stayed the arrest of Navlakha till 15 October. A notice has been issued to the state government on Navlakha's demand for cancellation of FIR. The apex court has asked the state government to present the record against Navlakha on the next hearing.

Earlier, after CJI Ranjan Gogoi, Judge BR Gavai, Judge Ravindra Bhatt also distanced himself from hearing the petition of Gautam Navlakha. Navlakha has challenged the Bombay High Court order in which the High Court flatly refused to dismiss the FIR. It is worth mentioning that the Maharashtra government filed a caveat application in the apex court on September 17 in the Gautam Navlakha case. In its application, the Maharashtra government has said that the court should not pass a unilateral order without hearing their side.

Earlier on 13 September, the Bombay High Court refused to dismiss the case filed against Gautam Navlakha. The bench rejected the petition filed on behalf of Navlakha, who in January 2018 demanded the cancellation of the FIR lodged against him by the Pune police.
